I have a friend who recently decided to make a radical career change. He left the job where he had been successful and was well regarded by his employers because it was slowly eroding his joy of life. He took the first step towards his dreams by mustering the courage to leave his secure and well paying career but then he got stuck. He knew what he really wanted to do but he had no idea how to make the leap.

Months of unemployment ensued and, as each month passed, the further he sank into depression. As these things go, the more he became absorbed with his problems the less he noticed his blessings, venturing into the territory of self-pity, self-absorption and ingratitude. He was so afraid things would not work out and, because he could not see the connective points between where he was and where he wanted to be, he allowed his fear to grow unchecked.

Fear is an extremely problematic emotion. It blinds us to the very path we must take, paralyses us just as we need to be ready to act, causes us to withdraw when we must be expansive and stand firmly in our power.

This is particularly true in employment situations. If we are not in our power, if we are not sure of who we are, what we can do, and the gifts we bring, all prospective employers will feel this, if only unconsciously.

Fear, like everything, is energy. It is a very low vibration energy and is only compatible with other low vibration energies. Thus, when we feel fear when we are looking to manifest situational changes like jobs and careers (but also relationships, financial opportunities and life experiences generally) only those operating on a similar vibration will be attracted to us and find us appealing.

Thus if we are fearful, ungrateful and self-seeking, we will only attract potential bosses and opportunities looking to exploit our fears and insecurities. Our fear attracts only people with similar fear. Our energy is incompatible with those who operate at the higher vibrations of joy, love and expansion. Those motivated by the desire to give, grow, share and inspire often find the energy of fear intolerable and instinctively move away from it.

When these ideas were communicated to my friend he instantly woke up. He immediately recognized the path he was on and that it would lead nowhere near his dreams. He made a 180 degree turn and started to fill his thoughts with gratitude and appreciation.

Once we become motivated by love, joy and the desire to share our gifts, the Universe rises up to meet us and we begin to see the small synchronicities that occur to bring the right people, things, and opportunities to us and we are able to recognize them for the wonderful blessings they are. And this is an important point. These blessings have, at some point, come to us all but our fear, and lower vibrational energies like greed, selfishness and dishonesty, blinds us to them such that they go unnoticed and unappreciated.

My friend decided to turn up, emotionally, mentally and physically. He silenced the many logical and rational arguments why things would not work out and moved to the city where the industry he wanted to be in was concentrated. Then he fearlessly followed the life prompts as they appeared. Within a matter of weeks a stranger started a conversation with him in the street and a few weeks later that stranger introduced him to the man who employed my friend in a job that is the first step on the path to the job of his dreams.
